Max Verstappen has mentioned that there is still a lot of work to be done on the new Red Bull Ford Powertrain after the Barcelona Formula 1 shakedown. F1 conducted a five-day private test in Barcelona this week, providing all 11 teams with a maximum of three days for running before the upcoming season’s regulations overhaul. Red Bull, powered by Ford for the first time, enters the season not as favorites despite having Verstappen and facing a significant challenge. Verstappen faced limited track time in Barcelona due to sharing running with new teammate Isack Hadjar and mixed conditions. Mercedes showcased strength by completing the most laps, conducting a race simulation, and topping the odds for both the constructors’ and drivers’ titles. The week’s test confirmed Mercedes’ positive progress, with Russell expressing satisfaction but not underestimating competitors with surprising power unit performances. Time will determine the actual impact of teams’ test performances as the season progresses.
